Elkhorn, NE: VHS Celebrates Therapeutic Recreation Month in February!

According to the NCTRC ( National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification) the purpose of National Therapeutic Recreation Month is to increase public awareness of recreation therapy programs and services.

This recognition month is also designed to promote awareness of functional recreation, leisure, and social opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and recognize the CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) as the qualified provider of recreation therapy services.

According to NCTRC, recreation therapy, also known as therapeutic recreation, is a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions based upon the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions. The purpose of the recreation therapy process is to improve or maintain physical, cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual functioning in order to facilitate full participation in life.

Vetter Health Services is proud to recognize the quality work that our CTRS and recreation therapy team members do each day with our residents.
