Loup City, NE: 100 Wonderful Years and Counting!
The Gardens Assisted Living in Loup City was the site of a fabulous 100th Birthday Celebration. Our beloved resident, Alice will be 100 years young on May 2, 2015. An absolutely beautiful cake was prepared for Alice by Arlene, one of our staff members who also has her own catering business. The cake featured a frosting replica of a beautiful quilt. This quilt is to honor the award winning quilting that Alice has done throughout her life. Alice continues to do beautiful quilting as well as crocheting and she always has a project or two in progress in her apartment. Alice will continue to celebrate as on May 2nd she will enjoy an open house celebration hosted by her family at the Community Center in Loup City. Sharing memories, we found out that Alice made the wedding cake for one of her fellow residents – 60 years ago!
She reminded us that there weren’t any cake mixes in those days and she did everything from “scratch”. Alice was born on a farm near Ashton, NE and has lived her life in Sherman county of Central Nebraska. When asked what her secret is to such successful longevity, she replied “Oh, one day at a time, one day at a time”. Alice’s warm smile that includes twinkling eyes and her positive attitude is such a testament to a life being well lived! Blessings to Alice as she continues to bring joy to others “one day at a time”.
