Omaha, NE: A Place Where Kindness Matters

Kindness Group

What a beautiful fall we have had in here Omaha, and on one of those rare warm November days, a very special random act of kindness occurred. Thanks to Shelly, our Transportation Coordinator, and Melissa, her assistant, we were able to help one of our Brookestone Village residents realize a wish that he has been hoping for since 2003.

At the same time Don began a battle with his health, his son passed away. Due to the circumstances surrounding his health issues, he was also not able to attend his son’s funeral, and has never been able to make the walk through the cemetery that is necessary for him to visit the grave site. On that warm November day, a small act of kindness provided a great opportunity.

Along with his wife, daughter, and several Brookestone Village team members Don was able to go to the cemetery, make his way to the grave site, and attend a memorial service performed by Deacon Denny in his son’s honor. It was a very touching moment, one that everyone in attendance will not soon forget.

Small acts of kindness can make a lasting impression on the person intended to receive it. They don’t have to cost much, if anything at all. A quote by Mother Teresa comes to mind “…we can do small things with great love” — our hope is to bring many more wishes to reality for our residents, as we think of Brookestone Village as “a place where kindness matters”.
