North Platte, NE: Linden Court Team Member Recipient of the Helen Bell Award
Karen Powers, Linden Court, Admissions Coordinator, has been honored with the 4th annual Helen Bell Award. This local award is a way to bring recognition to those who contribute in a significant way to the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. It is named in honor of the founder of the Lincoln County chapter of the Alzheimer’s Support Group who started the Walk here and ran it for 16 years.
Karen was nominated by their local Alzheimer’s support group and according to the local chairperson of the Alzheimer’s
Association Great Plains Chapter – was chosen “because of her absolute passion and commitment to the walk. She is a ball of fire when it comes to this cause, and those around her never fail to be encouraged and swept up in her commitment.”
Linden Court’s total raised for this year’s Alzheimer’s Walk is over $9000 but according to Neva Cooper, Social Services Coordinator there, “we have quite a few walkers yet to bring their pledge money in. We believe we will make $10,000 this year. This included money from the Alzheimer’s Kickoff Mega Yard Sale here at Linden Court, several employee functions and a bake sale. We had four raffles this year—items included 2 processed half hogs, a handcrafted wooden rocking horse, and 2 purple and white extra-large Afghans.“
States Neva, “What makes us the most proud of this endeavor is that 100% of the proceeds stay local—–As the only local provider of dementia care, we have developed a passion for the Alzheimer’s cause. Our goal last year was $3000 and we made $6000. Our goal this year was $6000…..who knows what the future holds??? Our dream is that it holds a cure for this horrible disease.”
