Lake City, IA: Shady Oaks Care Center – Bloomin’ Cruise

PictureAs National Nursing Home Week drew to a close, six residents and five team members embarked on the Bloomin’ Cruise. Though the morning was chilly, it turned out to be a beautiful day for a drive. Following a leisurely drive they ate lunch at Culver’s in Fort Dodge. Following lunch they took a leisurely drive past Fort Frenzy, the new family fun center and the middle school on the way to Smitty’s Garden Center. Upon arriving at the garden center, the group was quickly immersed in the sights and smells of spring. While looking at the different plants, Kim Gregg shared that he had worked in a greenhouse in Waterloo in his younger days. He helped Deb Zenor, Life Enrichment Assistant, pick out a few plants for her garden. They chose Lemon Balm, Lemon Verbana, and Pineapple Sage…guess what the bus smelled like on the way home! After leaving Smitty’s, the group drove around Fort Dodge before stopping at the Ice Cream Store for an unexpected treat. It was a great end to National Nursing Home Week!
