Garnett, KS: Happy 40th Vetter’s, 70′s Style-Gong Show

Fun Team      Rose      Resident Fun

To kick off our 40th year celebration with Vetter Health Services we decided for the 70′s we would relive the Gong Show. Our version anyway…So the planning started and the judges were selected. We had Glenna, Dean and Allan who are all family members of residents who live with us. Then we asked Ken (Our DON, Nancy’s husband) to be our announcer for the show, so Chuck Barris arrived and we began the show. We had so much great and not so great talent show up that day, but we had a lot of fun. The first contestant if you will, was Eunice Higgins off the Carol Burnett Show played by Patty Rundle (RN) sang “Feelings”, well she got gonged! We had Rerun from “What’s Happening” played by Connie Funk (CNA), she did a little jig for us. Next up was Danny and Sandy from “Grease” played by Nancy Amaya (DON) and Tiffanee Brown (ADON) with their amazing talents of hand jive and balloon art which was really something to see. Alfalfa from “Little Rascals” played by Kelli Kopf (CNA) sang “You are so Beautiful” while surrounded by bubbles.

One of our residents, Irene sang the numbers 1 through 10 in Polish. The Unknown Comics (Allan, Maintenance Manager and Max a resident) showed up to recite some jokes for us, well I think they got gonged too. The Golden Girls played by Sonya Martin (Administrator), Sharon Wiley (Dietary Manager), Angie Rues (Office Manager) and Carol Barnes (People Development Coordinator), did a mixed version of “Thank you for being a Friend/Rap” skit, very entertaining. The best act of the day was The Snazzy Sisters singing “Buttercup” sang by Terri Louk (Medical Records), Rita Skillman (Dietary Cook), JoAnne Highberger (Life Enrichment).

The Judges in amazement of all that talent really had a hard time trying to decide the winners but Irene with the Polish numbers took 1st place. The Snazzy Sisters took 2nd and Rerun came in 3rd place. We shared a lot of laughs, fun and great food. Many great new memories were made that day to kick off our 40th year celebration of Vetter Health Services…. 70′s style!
