Emerson, NE: “Windshield Time”

Norm
Celebrating his 94th Birthday in style, Norm S. was excited to go for a drive! When original plans fell through for a luncheon outing, Kellie W., Life Enrichment, strapped on her creativity cap and took the wheel to plan a spontaneous fun trip. While driving they talked about the days that Norm spent on the road. Norm worked as a Produce Manager for a Super Market Chain and traveled many miles between stores setting up displays. After about 35 miles into the trip he told how he just loved time behind the windshield. Traveling in Minnesota, Wisconsin, California and Arizona was his way of life. Kellie asked him if he was game for an adventure and to put a few more miles under his belt. Norm replied with a “Well sure!” So the two headed further north to Le Mars, IA. They stopped off for a cool treat from the official Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor.

Le Mars is known as the Ice Cream Capitol of the World. Norm enjoyed a butter pecan ice cream cone, his favorite. The two then toured the parlor where there is much history and memorabilia available to view. The day’s tour in Le Mars didn’t end there. Kellie took Norm past the ice cream plant and showed him the massive freezer building that houses all the ice cream. They also enjoyed driving around the community and seeing the beautiful old homes. On the return home the conversations were endless. “What a Birthday!”
