Honey, I Bought a Nursing Home

Jack buys his first nursing home, Heritage of Fairbury. After a few sleepless nights, Fairbury State Bank loans Jack $28,000 for the down payment.

A legacy begins

Jack and Eldora work double time to get their new business off the ground. They embraced a personal mission to give residents a place to feel secure, comfortable and happy.

Cloverlodge

The Vetters purchase their second nursing home in St. Edward, Nebraska.

Vetter Health Services established

As their mission expanded to providing a quality of life to all of their residents, a new management company was formed to support this mission.

Heritage of Emerson

Terrace Hill Manor joins the Vetter family. It is eventually renamed to Heritage of Emerson.

Heritage Estates

Jack and Eldora travel to Ethiopia to celebrate with the 10th graduating class of Addis Ababa Bible College, which the Vetters helped found.

Water for the World

The Vetter Foundation helps provide and distribute clean, safe drinking water to the poor of rural Kenya. To date, the Foundation has drilled over 100 wells in remote locations throughout Kenya.

Highland Park Assisted Living – Alliance

VSL Purchases Crossroads Assisted Living in Alliance, Nebraska. The community is made up of 31 private apartments with various floorplans. This purchase allows VSL to provide an additional level of service to seniors who need assistance, but not at the skilled nursing level provided at the Highland Park Care Center, also owned by Vetter Senior Living.

Vetter Senior Living facilities earn recognition as a Great Place to Work in Aging Service by Great Place to Work® and FORTUNE. More than 230,000 Senior Care employees from across the nation were surveyed. VSL would receive the recognition again in 2019.

Brookestone Gardens – Kearney

Brookestone Gardens is opened in Kearney, Nebraska. Designed and constructed by VSL, the campus includes apartments for independent and assisted living, as well as skilled nursing and skilled rehabilitation. It is the first VSL facility to have all services provided within one building, and the first to have a café style bistro for residents and guests.
